Jan Lim Photography / Annonymity Fashion

Once again, Jan Lim has left me in awe as he conceptualizes and executes yet another shoot.  I was lucky enough to be involved in the sense that he asked to use some designs I created previously.

I'm entering this piece into a competition based around fur free fashion and protecting the wildlife.  That is definitely something I can get behind.

Behind The Scenes 1.9.11

I personally enjoy "behind-the scenes" footage because it gives a look into what went on before the finished product is shown.  You can see how people interact and the many talented people who aren't actually seen in each photo.  Okay, so this isn't an amazing behind the scenes clip, nor is it a reasonable length to form an accurate opinion of what was going on, BUT you can see smiling faces and artists at work. 

I want to try and take more videos (on my sweet little iPhone) of my work in progress and simple daily life.

  Photographer and Art Director Jan Lim put together an amazing shoot; a shoot that lasted from 8 am to 12:00 that night!  In that time span we shot 8 of my dresses, including concept shoots envisioned by Jan. 

The models were amazing, the hair stylist and make-up artist were a dream to work with.  Jan and Ahdom (who assisted Jan) perfected the lighting and the setting.  Natalie came early and stayed the entire day, helping with accessories and fixing the dresses while they were being shot.  We even recruited her at the end of the day to model one of the dresses for a "shadow puppet" concept Jan put together.  Renee came and served as a second pair of eyes for me.  While I was getting a girl dressed with Natalie, Renee would be making sure the dresses looked good during shooting.

There were no bad attitudes, we went way beyond the time schedule we made and everyone was patient and focused.  This shoot gave me hope and made me even more optimistic about what can be done.

Fashion Show

I haven't felt like writing much lately, probably because of how crazy I've felt.  I'm still trying to figure why when one thing goes bad, everything else tumbles around you.  It makes me believe that you are what you think. 

Despite all of the craziness, I've managed to get myself into more craziness by getting booked as a showcase designer for an upcoming fashion show.  Exciting, I know.  The only problem is that my concept for the collection is based on something that happened recently with my mom, and therefore has not been created.  This means I have from now until Febuary 1st to create as many garments as I can...I'm shooting for 8. 

This isn't the time to show half-assed garments either; one thing I've learned is that networking does help, so showing some shotty work just won't do - not that I'd ever want to do that. 

About a month ago I decided 2011 is going to be the year I do everything I can to start my business or make some impact in the fashion world.  After I mentally prepared myself is when all of these opportunities starting coming up, like this fashion show, or a friend asking me to help with a fashion shoot which led to some good contacts, or another fashion show production contacting me. 

I'm looking forward to this year.

Mysterious Foil

 

I'm not talking about "a character who contrasts with another character in order to highlight various features of that other character's personality, throwing these characteristics into sharper focus (Wiki)."  I'm not talking about a weapon used in fencing, or how to obscure or confuse a trail or scent, and  I'm not talking about ruining anyone's master plan.  Lastly, I remember using the F-O-I-L method in math, but that's not it either.  Though all of the above mentioned may be mysterious in their ways, I'm talking about aluminum foil. 

Have you ever had a burrito from Chipotle?  It comes wrapped all perfectly in foil.  Then you begin to eat it, and you get about half way through and realize it's going to be your next meal as well...so you try to wrap it back up in the same foil it came in, which is nearly impossible.  The now wrinkled foil has taken on a smaller form and is unwilling to go back to its old ways of being smooth and big enough to fit around your burrito.  So, you tug on it, then it rips. 

Aluminum foil also serves baking purposes, keeping those pans safe from villainous food.  It can be molded into a food dish, or to make wondrous flying dragons and unicorns.  Ever thought of making a skirt or dress out of foil?  Well don't, because it will probably tear and then you will be naked...awkward.

Basically, foil is awesome.  Fragile, shrinking, warrior, and compromising.  But don't put it in the microwave.
